Whipple Superchargers is developing the X-71, a next-generation twin-screw supercharger designed as a modern tribute to the legendary 6-71 roots blower. The X-71 combines the iconic visual presence of traditional roots-style superchargers with Whipple’s most advanced Gen 6 rotor technology.

Positive-displacement superchargers have been a cornerstone of hot-rodding for decades, valued for instant boost response, mechanical simplicity, and unmistakable engine-bay presence. The X-71 carries that heritage forward while incorporating modern airflow development, manufacturing precision, and improved thermal efficiency.
At the core of the X-71 is a massive 5.0-liter twin-screw displacement, significantly larger than Whipple’s familiar 3.0L and 3.8L superchargers. Built around Whipple’s Gen 6 rotor architecture, the X-71 features high-flow internal porting designed to move more air while requiring less power to drive — a key advantage in high-output, high-boost applications.
Rather than being sold as a complete kit, the X-71 is engineered to integrate into existing 6-71–style supercharger combinations. It utilizes a standard 6-71 mounting flange and common carb pad bolt patterns, allowing builders to configure belt drives, intake manifolds, air hats, carburetors, and throttle bodies based on their specific application.
Designed for street, strip, and exhibition-style use, the X-71 is intended to pair classic blower aesthetics with modern airflow efficiency, durability, and thermal headroom — making it well suited for high-output builds where both performance and visual impact matter.
